Scott Tintle, MD
(Partnering Principal Investigator)

Dr. Scott Tintle is the Chief of Hand Surgery and Associate Research Director at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC). Based out of Bethesda, MD, Dr. Tintle is also an Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS) and an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania. With a Medical Degree from USUHS, Dr. Tintle specializes in hand surgery after completing a fellowship in hand and microsurgery at the University of Pennsylvania. For this project, Dr. Tintle served as Partnering Principal Investigator, and provided leadership to the WRNMMC research team.

 

 

Paul Pasquina, MD

Dr. Paul Pasquina is the Chief of Rehabilitation at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC) in Bethesda, MD. Dr. Pasquina is also Professor and Chair for the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) at the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences. As a Board Certified specialist in PM&R with sub-specialty certification in Electrodiagnostic Medicine and Pain Medicine, and Fellowship training in Sports Medicine, Dr. Pasquina is interested in advancing all aspects of the field of rehabilitation, including identifying barriers and disparities in access to care, maximizing functional independence after injury or disease, and promoting the highest levels of social participation and quality of life. For this project, Dr. Pasquina provided both clinical and research guidance to the WRNMMC team.


Michelle Nordstrom, MS, OTR/L

Michelle Nordstrom is a board-certified Clinical Research Occupational Therapist at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC) and an Assistant Professor for Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS). She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Allied Health and her Master of Science in Occupational Therapy from the College of St. Scholastica. Michelle’s research interests are in advancing the field of rehabilitation in all aspects that improve functional independence, social participation and quality of life. For this project, Michelle offered guidance with recruitment and assisted with data collection and analysis.


Michelle Luken, DSc, OTR/L, BCMH, CSCS

Dr. Luken is a Senior Clinical Research Associate for the Henry M. Jackson Foundation in support of the Center for Rehabilitation Sciences Research at the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences (USUHS). She is also an Assistant Professor for Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at USUHS. Dr. Luken graduated from the Army-Baylor Doctor of Science in Occupational Therapy program and has been an occupational therapist for 13 years. She holds a board certification in mental health by the American Occupational Therapy Association, and is a certified strength and conditioning coach. For this project, Dr. Luken offered guidance with recruitment and assisted with data collection and analysis.


Tiffany Riggleman, COTA/L, CTR

Tiffany Riggleman is a Research Occupational Therapy Assistant with the Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine, supporting the Center for Rehabilitation Sciences Research (CRSR) at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS). She is based out of Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC) and provides support for CDR Scott Tintle, M.D. Tiffany collaborates on a post-traumatic stress-related study and an additional limb-loss related study at the CRSR. With an Associates in Applied Science, licensed occupational therapy assistant, and three years of clinical experience in skilled nursing and rehabilitation, Tiffany brings a distinctive perspective to the study team. For this project, Tiffany assisted with recruitment and data analysis and offered insight on topics related to occupational therapy.


Shannon Fichter, MS

Shannon Fichter is a Clinical Research Coordinator with the Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine, supporting the Center for Rehabilitation Sciences Research (CRSR) at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS). She is based out of both Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC) and Fort Belvoir Community Hospital (FBCH). She contributes research support for CDR Scott Tintle, M.D. Shannon serves as the subject matter expert for six clinical research protocols assigned, providing coordination and assisting in the development and transition of procedures. With a Masters of Science in Clinical Psychology, and two years of clinical research experience, Shannon brings a dynamic approach to research. For this project, Shannon assisted with recruitment and data collection, and coordinated tasks for the WRNMMC research team.


Withney Altema, MHS

Withney Altema is a Clinical Research Assistant II with the Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine, supporting the Center for Rehabilitation Sciences Research (CRSR) at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS). She is based out of Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC) and provides support for CDR Scott Tintle, M.D. Withney collaborates on four limb-loss related studies within CRSR. With a Masters of Science in Environmental Health and Engineering, experience in medical assistance, and one year of conducting clinical research. Withney brings a distinctive perspective to the study team. For this project, Withney assisted with recruitment, data collection, and analysis.


Delaney Dodd, BS

Delaney Dodd is a Program Coordinator with the Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine, supporting the Center for Rehabilitation Sciences Research (CRSR) at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS). She is based out of Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC) and provides research support for CDR Scott Tintle, M.D. Delaney is responsible for the programmatic coordination of eleven studies to include resource development, rehabilitation and prosthetic usage for limb loss, and pain management. Delaney has dual Bachelor of Science degrees in Health Sciences and Psychology, as well as two years of clinical research experience. For this project, Delaney supported the program manager and WRNMMC research team to ensure timely completion of project milestones.


Derek Soloway, MHA, LAT, ATC

Derek Soloway is the Program Manager with the Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine, supporting the Center for Rehabilitation Sciences Research (CRSR) at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS). He is based out of Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC) and provides research support for CDR Scott Tintle, M.D. Derek holds a Bachelor of Arts in Exercise and Sports Science-Athletic Training from the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill, an Executive Master's degree in Healthcare Administration from George Washington University, and is licensed to practice Athletic Training in Maryland. Derek, has 11 years working with military patients as well 12 years active duty as a Staff Non Commissioned Officer in the Marine Corps. Derek brings a unique perspective to the study team. For this project, Derek provided supervision and coordination for the WRNMMC research team.
